How to Go to Bhutan from Pune

Traveling to Bhutan from Pune is easy and can be done by flight, train, or road. Since Bhutan has only one international airport in Paro, there are no direct flights from Pune. However, here’s how you can reach Bhutan smoothly:

By Flight (Fastest & Most Convenient)

  1. Pune to Paro (Via Kolkata/Delhi) – The quickest way is to take a flight from Pune to Kolkata or Delhi, then connect to a Druk Air or Bhutan Airlines flight to Paro.
  2. Pune to Bagdogra (India Route) – Fly from Pune to Bagdogra (West Bengal). From there, take a taxi or bus to Jaigaon (Indian border town), and cross into Bhutan’s Phuentsholing. From Phuentsholing, you can drive to Thimphu or Paro.

By Train (Budget-Friendly Option)

There are no direct trains to Bhutan, but you can travel to nearby Indian railway stations:

  • Take a train from Pune to New Jalpaiguri (NJP) or Hasimara in West Bengal.
  • From NJP/Hasimara, hire a taxi or take a local train to Jaigaon, then enter Bhutan via Phuentsholing.

By Road (For Adventure Seekers)

If you love long road trips, you can drive from Pune to Bhutan. However, it’s a long journey of over 2,500 km, so breaking it into multiple stops is recommended. Most travelers prefer to reach Bagdogra or NJP first and then travel by road from there.

Best Way to Travel

For comfort and time-saving, flying to Bagdogra or Kolkata and then entering Bhutan via Phuentsholing or Paro is the best option. Choose your route based on budget, time, and convenience.
